This comprehensive book includes instructions and practical tips on sowing seeds, planting, and propagation as well as care guidelines, photos, and planning charts for hundreds of garden plants. Powell, a landscape designer and garden consultant, is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, Virginia.



Should I Medicate My Child?: Sane Solutions for Troubled Kids With—and Without—Psychiatric Drugs. By Lawrence H. Diller, M.D. Basic Books, 2002; $17.95. Diller, a behavioral pediatrician and author of Running on Ritalin, is a member of the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, California.

Backpacker's Notebook: Exploring Unitarian Universalist Faith and Community. By Donna DiSciullo and Michael Tino. UUA, 2004; $8. Backpacking is a metaphor for the journey of youth and young adults toward active participation in the Unitarian Universalist movement as adults. DiSciullo and Tino are the former and current directors of the UUA Young Adult and Campus Ministry Office.

Patriots, Stand Up! This Land Is Our Land; Fight to Take It Back. By Russell W. Peterson. Cedar Tree Books, 2003; $9.95, available from www.governorpeterson.org. Peterson is a former Republican governor of Delaware, past president of the National Audubon Society, and head of the U.S. Council on Environmental Quality under Presidents Nixon and Ford. He criticizes current right-wing Republican policies. Peterson is a member of the First Unitarian Society of Wilmington, Delaware.

American Vanguard: The United Auto Workers during the Reuther Years, 1935–1970. By John Barnard. Wayne State Univ. Press, 2004; $34.95. A comprehensive history of the United Auto Workers union. Barnard is professor emeritus of history at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, and a member of First Parish Brewster, Massachusetts.

Grierson's Raid: A Daring Cavalry Strike through the Heart of the Confederacy. By Tom Lalicki. Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2004; $18. Chronicles the 16-day push of a Union cavalry brigade. Lalicki, author of three biographies, is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Briarcliff, Croton, and Ossining in Croton-on-Hudson, New York.
