Mount Vernon Partners LLC, a company formed for the purpose of purchasing and developing the building, is affiliated with Daniel René Commercial Real Estate Services. Marcel D. Safar, general manager and counsel of Daniel René, said the property would be converted into condominium units.
41 Mt. Vernon St. had housed Beacon Press and the UUA’s program staff since the UUA purchased it in 1997. The six-story building, built in 1917, is the last of the UUA’s four Beacon Hill properties to be sold. In March the UUA sold its headquarters building, 25 Beacon St., and 6 and 7 Mt. Vernon Place, known as Eliot & Pickett Houses, for a total of $23.6 million. These buildings, purchased by Sea-Dar Construction, will also be converted to condominiums.
In May the UUA and Beacon Press moved to 24 Farnsworth St. in Boston’s Seaport District. The move allows staff to work on three floors in a single building that is more accessible, allows for improved electronic communications, and is more energy efficient.
The sale of 41 Mt. Vernon St. became official Wednesday, August 6. The proceeds of the sale will be used in part to finance the UUA’s move, according to Brennan, with the remainder going into the UUA’s endowment.
