Claire Clements, a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens, Georgia, says Walking Stick Memories was inspired by a decorative tree she and her husband planted more than forty years ago, called “Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick.” “Its unique twisting growth pattern revealed itself over time as the tree grew from small stick to a full 15-foot-high, fully mature tree,” she writes. “The emergence of the tree’s character can be likened to the growth of families to include and embrace progeny in all its diversity: children, grandchildren, spouses, partners, and significant others. Growth requires time for both reflection and synthesis.”
