My Chaos Theory: Stories. Steve Watkins. Southern Methodist Univ. Press, 2006; $22.50. Fiction debut features coming-of-age stories about quirky men and boys, from mischief-makers at a Florida zoo to a misguided philanthropist in India. Watkins, author of The Black O: Racism and Redemption in an American Corporate Empire, teaches at the University of Mary Washington and is a member of the UU Fellowship of Fredericksburg, Va.

Magic Wanda’s Travel Emporium: Tales of Love, Hate and Things in Between. Joshua Searle-White. Skinner House, 2007; $15. Fifteen stories especially suited to reading aloud to children and intergenerational groups. Searle-White, a professor of psychology at Allegheny College and member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Meadville, Pa., won the 2003 Storyteller of the Year competition hosted by the Creative Arts Institute in Ohio. An audio version is also available from the UUA Bookstore ($15).

Forget Perfect. Lisa Earle McLeod, with JoAnn Swan Neely. Penguin, 2001; $13.95. Drawing on her experience as a working mother and motivational speaker, McLeod counsels overextended women to prioritize themselves on their to-do lists. The author is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Gwinnett, Ga.

Blame it on the Rain: How the Weather Has Changed History. Laura Lee. Harper, 2006; $13.95. Explores how weather phenomena have affected pivotal world events. (See her “Forum” essay in this issue, page 14; see link below.) Lee, author of eleven books, including 100 Most Dangerous Things You Can Do in Everyday Life and What You Can Do About Them, is a member of the Birmingham Unitarian Church in Michigan.

Coming of Age: A Treasury of Poems, Quotations, and Readings on Growing Up. Ed. by Edward Searl. Skinner House, 2006; $15. The fourth volume in a new series of quote books for personal reflection and congregational use. Searl is minister of the Unitarian Church of Hinsdale, Ill.

Raising Drug-Free Kids: 100 Tips for Parents. Aletha Solter. Da Capo, 2006; $13.95. Advice for parents to keep their children of all ages off drugs. Solter, a developmental psychologist and non-punitive parenting expert, belongs to the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Goleta, Calif.

Gatherings: Small Group Ministry for Men. Tony Bushman and Bill Hamilton-Holway. Skinner House, 2006; $10. Outlines eight worship services and offers general advice to guide men in small group ministries. Bushman is a professor emeritus at San Francisco State University and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley, Calif., where Hamilton-Holway serves as co-minister.

With Vision and Courage: Starr King School for the Ministry: The History of Its First 100 Years, 1904–2004. Arliss L. Ungar. iUniverse, 2006; $29.95. A chronicle of 100 years of religious education, through wars, financial crises, and hate mail, at the Unitarian Universalist seminary in Berkeley, Calif. The author holds an honorary doctorate from Starr King School for the Ministry, where she chaired the board of trustees and runs the Balázs Scholars Program, which brings a Transylvanian Unitarian minister to study at the school each year.

Exploring Unitarian Universalist Identity. Peter Tufts Richardson. Red Barn, 2006; $14.95. Initially delivered as the Minns Lectures, articulates UU identity within a pluralistic world. Richardson wrote The Boston Religion: Unitarianism In Its Capital City, among other books in psychology, history, and poetry, and is minister emeritus at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Andover, Mass.

The Abundance of Our Faith: Award-Winning Sermons on Giving. Ed. by Terry Sweetser and Susan Milnor. Skinner House, 2006; $16. Ministers share their insights on the challenges and rewards of UU stewardship. Includes discussion ideas. Sweetser is the UUA’s Vice President of Stewardship and Development. Milnor, a Borden Award-winning preacher, is a member and former minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster, Pa.

The Swedish Secret: What the United States Can Learn from Sweden’s Story. Earl Gustafson. Syren, 2006; $15.95. Gustafson, a second-generation Swedish-American, lawyer, and former Minnesota state legislator and judge, is a member of Unity Church–Unitarian in St. Paul.

Reputation Management: The Key to Successful Public Relations and Corporate Communications. John Doorley and Helio Fred Garcia. Routledge, 2007; $45. Peppered with real-world examples and organized by industry, presents reputation management as a key to success in corporate communication. The authors both teach at New York University. Garcia is a member of the Unitarian Church of All Souls in New York.
