After 30 years of service, executive vice president will step down in June.
Montgomery joined the UUA staff in 1983. She has held the position of executive vice president since 1985, and has worked alongside five UUA presidents: the Rev. Eugene Pickett, the Rev. Dr. William F. Schulz, the Rev. John Buehrens, the Rev. William Sinkford, and the Rev. Peter Morales.
Montgomery made the announcement to UUA employees in a staff meeting on February 7. In an email, Morales told staff: “Kay Montgomery’s retirement will truly end an era at the UUA. She has served our Association with distinction and grace. On a personal note, she has been an invaluable colleague.”
Morales also said that he has hired an outside organizational consultant to review the structure of UUA staffing and to make recommendations to him.
“Our faith is in a period of exciting change filled with breathtaking possibility,” Morales wrote. “As we celebrate Kay’s service, let us prepare to embrace the future.”
An upcoming issue of UU World will reflect on Montgomery’s three decades with the UUA.
