Side With Love, a program of the Unitarian Universalist Association, is offering to help UUs and congregations get involved in the October 18 No Kings protests happening across the United States.
In September, the UUA signed on as an official partner of the No Kings National Day of Mobilization, stating in its announcement:
“Our commitment to building a multiracial democracy shows up in how we resist the abduction and deportation of our immigrant community members; how we resist voter suppression in the legislature and at the ballot box; how we celebrate our LGBTQ+ kin and communities—and on October 18, shows up in how we collectively cry out No Kings!”
Millions are expected to attend the more than 2,500 demonstrations planned across the United States, according to No Kings organizers. International No Kings protests are also planned in France, Spain, Germany, Mexico, and more.
Side with Love, a part of the UUA’s Organizing Strategy Team, is helping coordinate participation for individual UUs and UU congregations. Find local No Kings protests or register a No Kings event on the Side with Love website.
Side with Love has also curated a collection of resources for UUs for the October 18 No Kings event, providing logistical details, spiritual grounding, and more.
What is the ‘No Kings’ Movement?
Founders say the No Kings movement is opposed to corruption and authoritarianism in government. The first protests happened in response to the June 14 military parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, which coincided with Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
That day of protest was the largest single-day mobilization since Trump’s second inauguration, per CBS News. No Kings organizers say more than five million people attended.
More information, including a map of all registered No Kings events, can be found on the movement’s official website.
